Presentation Brothers College

President's Welcome Address

 Dear Fellow Past Pupils,

I am privileged and honoured to take up the role of President of the Presentation College Union for 2023/24. The recently appointed Executive Committee and I are looking forward to driving the Union to new levels of success.

Thank you to all of my predecessors for their excellent stewardship of the Union since its incorporation in 1936 and especially our outgoing President, Aubrey Murnaghan (Class of 1989) and long-standing Hon. Treasurer JB Murphy (Class of 1962).

The Union offers past pupils a great way to stay connected after school. The importance of staying connected, helping each other and remembering shared experiences cannot be underestimated. I am encouraged by the growing number of Alumni who are willing to support the Union in different ways and firmly believe the Union will grow in strength in the coming years.

As we look to the year ahead the Union’s focus is to deliver great networking events and to foster a strong sense of community, engagement, and involvement among past pupils whilst drive Alumni participation in the activities of the Union.

I would encourage all past pupils to register/update your contact details through the Alumni website (https://www.pbc-cork.ie/alumni) to keep informed of these events.

As the 150th anniversary of Pres approaches in 2028, the Union is delighted to support the College, Principal Mr. David Barry, Board of Management and Trustees with an exciting list of events and projects in the coming years.

Congratulations to past pupil Cillian Murphy (Class of 1995) on his many recent awards including becoming the first Irish-born actor to win the Oscar for Best Actor at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

Finally, congratulations also to the successful Senior and Junior players, their supporters, parents, teachers, coaches and back room staff on their epic achievement of the ‘double-double’ in the Munster Schools Senior and Junior rugby competitions – the first since 1966!

Viriliter Age,

Joey Sheahan,

President for 2023/2024 (Class of 1998)
